John and Alan are now housemates, thanks to DirectLife
Recovering from the effects of seizures, John receives a few hours of support each week. Having lived alone since his former housemate’s ill health required hospitalization, John needed someone to share the rent and thought it was time to find a new housemate.
Alan was still coming to terms with his move to a new suburb. Both men were referred to DirectLife, an innovative program which matches people with a disability and facilitates their move to shared living.
Through DirectLife, Alan was introduced to John and they hit it off, despite the fact that there is an age difference, they follow different footy teams, and are involved in different activities during the week!
John and Alan now share a house in Clayton, maintaining their independence, but enjoying each other’s companionship.
With on-going support, the transition has been smooth and a great outcome for them both.
John and I get along, we have no problems and I am enjoying my new area.
